These Terms of Use ("Terms") apply to The Institution of Navigation, Inc., owner of the ION site at ion.org (the "Site"), and to content and materials on the Site (collectively, "Content"). By using the Site or accessing its Content, you accept and agree to these Terms, which govern your use of this Site. Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using the Site, because they affect your legal rights and obligations.

If you do not agree with any of these Terms of Use, please do not use the Site. By using this Site, you will be deemed to have irrevocably agreed to these Terms.

Some portions of the Site may be subject to additional terms and conditions which will be available for your review prior to accessing these portions of the Site. Such additional terms and conditions will not change or replace these Terms regarding use of the Site, unless otherwise expressly stated.

ION is committed to maintaining the privacy of all visitors to our website, ion.org (the "Site").

Information Collection and Use

We may collect certain personally identifiable information you knowingly choose to disclose to us, such as your name and email address.You may provide this information when you create an account with the Site, attend a conference, or otherwise provide it to ION.

It is the policy of ION that no user-supplied individual information shall be divulged to third parties without the user having authorized such use or as described in this Privacy/Security Policy. In particular, names, contact information (including email addresses) and other personal information shall not be supplied to any third party with the following exceptions:

Lists of names and postal mailing addresses may be rented for one-time advertisement messages via postal mail by industry related organizations. You may opt out of such mailings by updating your preferences on your web account profile, or by contacting the ION National Office.

Full contact lists of ION conference registrants, including e-mail addresses, may be supplied to exhibitors and other advertisers for the purpose of promoting their attendance at ION conference events and/or the products and services displayed at the same. Any individual may opt out of being included in these lists at the time they register or by updating their preferences on the web account profile page.

ION's use of supplied email addresses will be limited to direct email transmission from the ION National Office for the purpose of informing the recipient of relevant information regarding ION's programs and events, or as outlined above. Users may opt out of such mailings by updating their preferences on the web account profile page, or by contacting the ION Membership Department. However, any transaction initiated by the user, such as submission of a registration, abstract, membership application, awards nomination, or purchase of a publication, will result in an email response limited to the topic of that transaction. In addition, ION may contact individuals from time to time on a one-to-one basis concerning ION membership status or organizational policies.

We may also collect aggregated information as you visit the Site.No information about individual use of the website (tracking information) will be supplied to any third party. However, aggregate information (e.g., web page "hits" or counts) is reviewed and may be supplied to third parties.

ION utilizes Google Analytics for the purposes of monitoring website usage. Google Analytics utilizes first-party cookies that report on visitor interactions with the website. These cookies do not store personally identifiable information, and they are not available to any website other than www.ion.org.

If some or all of our assets are acquired by or merged with another organization, that organization will possess the information collected by us, and it will assume the rights and obligations regarding your information as described in this Privacy/Security Policy.

We may disclose personally identifiable information or other data to comply with law or legal requirements, enforce or apply our Terms of Use and other agreements, or protect our rights, property, or safety of our users, or others.


ION undertakes reasonable efforts to ensure that all personally identifiable information collected on our site remains secure. ION staff is trained to treat member and customer information confidentially.

Cookies are used to implement user login and to monitor aggregate site traffic and activity statistics. No cookies are implemented for the purposes of tracking individual user behavior except for logging access to paid content. No third party cookies are allowed on this site. Cookies do not carry any personally identifiable information.

ION servers use industry-standard encryption techniques, including the use of Secure Socket Layer (HTTPS) communications protocols. By default, your entry of personal or financial data is encrypted.The use of appropriate browser software and encryption options are your responsibility and ION assumes no risk or liability in ensuring your compliance to local law.
